What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry and diagnoses, prevents and corrects misaligned teeth and jaws. Although many believe that this discipline looks at just aesthetics it addresses much more than that, such as the functional harmony of the bite. Performing procedures to straighten teeth makes up a major part of this specialty, but so does understanding the precise impact that misalignment has on oral health, jaw function, and an individual's confidence.
An orthodontist is a dentist who has undertaken several years of additional, specialist training to become an expert in tooth movement and facial development. They are able to advise when simple monitoring might be appropriate for a growing child, or when a comprehensive treatment plan is the most reliable path to achieving a healthy, functional and beautiful smile for patients of all ages.
