What Are Lactation Services?
Lactation services are designed to support mothers through one of the most personal and meaningful aspects of early parenthood and that being breastfeeding. Services are led by certified lactation consultants and trained breastfeeding specialists and are aimed at helping mothers understand the feeding process, overcome early challenges and build confidence as they navigate life with a newborn.
Sometimes breastfeeding is not always as straightforward as it seems and often mothers may experience uncertainty with latch, positioning, milk supply or their baby's feeding behaviour. That's when a lactation consultant would come into the picture. Also referred to as a breastfeeding consultant, lactation specialist or certified lactation consultant, they provide practical, personalised guidance to help make breastfeeding more comfortable and manageable. Because breast milk is the primary source of nutrition and immunity for newborns, breastfeeding guidance can make a meaningful difference to a baby's early health and a mother's overall experience.

Each NMC facility is equipped with modern maternity and newborn care units, advanced clinical support and seamless referral pathways. With lactation services fully integrated into our maternity ecosystem, this means that breastfeeding assistance is not a separate add-on but part of a coordinated, multi-disciplinary model that includes Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Midwifery Services, Neonatology and Newborn Care and Postnatal Support Units. NMC's maternity packages, both normal delivery and caesarean delivery options also incorporate breastfeeding support as part of the hospital stay. Mothers are offered guidance immediately after birth, including skin-to-skin support and initiation of breastfeeding with the help of trained professionals.
