Dr. Katrak completed his M.B.B.S. from Mumbai and obtained his DNB in Surgery from the National Board of Examination, New Delhi. He further attained his FRCS & MRCS from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow, Scotland, and MRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Ireland. Dr. Katrak has also obtained his Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery - Bariatrics & Metabolic Surgery from the Indian Association of Gastro-Intestinal Endo Surgeons (I.A.G.E.S), New Delhi, India.

In NMC for the last 18 years, Dr. Katrak has worked as a Consultant Surgeon and has rich experience in major abdominal surgeries, minimally invasive daycare surgeries, along with laparoscopic hernia, gall bladder, anorectal, pilonidal, varicose veins, and breast surgeries.
Dr. Katrak has had a brilliant post-graduation career & did his Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, India under Padmashree Dr. Pradeep Chowbey. He also underwent training in Haemorrhoidal THD procedures at Policlinico Gemelli Hospital, Italy, and Hemorrhoids HAL procedure at Barmherzige Schwestern Hospital - Vienna, Austria.
Prior to joining NMC Specialty Hospital – Abu Dhabi, Dr. Katrak was working in the reputed BLY Nair Hospital, a 1,200-bedded, multi-disciplinary teaching hospital in Mumbai, India, where he worked in the GESS (Gastroenterological Surgical Services) Department, dealing with a vast range of hepatobiliary and colorectal surgeries. He also held the post of Casualty Medical Officer, where he handled a large number of trauma cases.
Dr. Katrak’s keen interest in hernia surgery led him to attend workshops in Advanced Laparoscopic & Open Hernia Surgery at Imelda Hospital in Belgium under Dr. Tim Tollens in 2012 and 2017. He also attended Abdominal Wall Repair (AWR) hands-on training in Mumbai, India, in 2017 & Stephana Hospital - Krakow, Poland, in 2018. He has also conducted a workshop in Laparoscopic Ventral Hernia Repair at the Sharjah Surgical Institute, University of Sharjah. He has been one of the main organisers of the International Hernia Conferences conducted by NMC in Abu Dhabi, UAE, annually. He specialises in Laparoscopic Hernia TEP Repair, Laparoscopic Ventral Hernia Repair & Component Separation procedures for complex hernias.
A regular presenter, faculty member & attendee at international & local surgical conferences & CME meets has kept Dr. Katrak abreast with the latest developments in the field of surgery & the internationally acclaimed surgical fraternities, including their membership. The above international exposure has been gained in various healthcare settings & with varied age and culturally/ethnically diverse groups.
Dr. Katrak has several international publications, articles & scientific presentations to his credit. He has been involved in organising several conferences. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Minimal Access Surgery (JMAS), the official publication of the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons, India. Dr. Katrak’s special area of interest is in laparoscopic surgeries especially hernia surgery, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, minimally invasive varicose veins surgery, haemorrhoidal THD/HAL/laser procedures, open/VAAFT/laser procedure for complex anal fistulas & pilonidal sinus surgery.
