Dr. Shaimaa Al-Janabi is a highly accomplished Consultant Anatomic & Histopathology with over 25 years of total medical experience, including more than 20 years dedicated to pathology encompassing, academic research, structured postgraduate training, and independent diagnostic practice. She has been working at consultant level for the past 5 years in leading academic and non academic centers in the Netherlands.

Dr. Al-Janabi holds both a Master’s degree and a PhD in Pathology, supported by formal European residency training in Histopathology at Amsterdam University Medical Centre (VUmc). Her academic and clinical career spans several prestigious institutions, including UMC-Utrecht Amsterdam UMC and OLVG Hospital Amsterdam.

 

Her diagnostic expertise is focused on gastrointestinal and lung pathology, with a solid experience in uropathology, breast pathology, dermatopathology, and cytopathology. She is highly experienced in delivering accurate, high-quality diagnoses in both routine and complex cases, supporting multidisciplinary clinical decision-making.

 

With a strong academic background, Dr. Al-Janabi earned her PhD in Pathology from Utrecht University, where her research contributed significantly to the field of digital pathology and whole-slide imaging for primary diagnostics. She has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in high-impact international journals and has presented her work at international pathology conferences. Her research has influenced modern diagnostic workflows in pathology.

Dr. Al-Janabi is fluent in English, Arabic, and Dutch and brings an international, patient-centered perspective to diagnostic pathology practice.

 

Gastrointestinal Pathology: 

Diagnostic reporting of upper and lower GI biopsies and resections, dysplasia assessment, inflammatory and neoplastic GI diseases.

 

Pulmonary & Lung Pathology:

 Diagnostic evaluation of lung biopsies and resections, cytology, and ancillary studies (including predictive markers PDL-1, ROS-1 en ALK).

Uropathology:

Renal and urinary tract pathology, including tumor diagnostics.

 

Breast Pathology:

Benign and malignant breast disease, HER2 immunohistochemistry and Chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH).

 

Cytopathology:

Non-gynecological cytology and fine needle aspiration specimens

Digital Pathology:

Whole-slide imaging for primary diagnostics, validation, and quality assurance

 

Academic & Research Expertise:

She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and Master’s degree in Pathology from Al-Nahrain University. She subsequently earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pathology from Utrecht University, the Netherlands.


Dr. Al-Janabi completed her specialist residency training in Histopathology at Amsterdam University Medical Centre (VUmc) and holds Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath), UK – Part 1. Her advanced training and professional career have been shaped by leading academic and tertiary medical centers in the Netherlands.
