Prof. Hisham is a highly qualified foetal medicine consultant in Abu Dhabi with a diverse range of qualifications. He has more than 35 years of experience and has worked in many universities and institutions. As the Chair of fetal medicine in Abu Dhabi, he played a pivotal role in advancing the field. He worked as Professor and Chair of the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department at the United Arab Emirates University. He was also the Chief of Fetal Medicine Unit at Tawam Hospital in Al Ain and the President of the Emirates Perinatal Society, further establishing his reputation as a fetal medicine specialist  Abu Dhabi.


Before joining NMC Royal Hospitals in Abu Dhabi, Prof. Hisham was the head of the Foetal Medicine Department and Consultant Maternal Foetal Medicine at Danat Al Emarat Hospital. Recognized as the best fetal medicine consultant in Abu Dhabi, he also served as the head of academic affairs and designated institute official. Additionally, he was the ambassador for the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, further solidifying his role as an expert in maternal-fetal medicine in Abu Dhabi.


Prof. Hisham obtained his M.B.B.Ch from Kasr Al Aini School of Medicine, Cairo University, Egypt in 1986, and his Master’s in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (MGO) from Khartoum University, Sudan in 1993. He also earned Membership in the Arab Board of Medical Specializations for Obstetricians & Gynaecology (Arab Board), Damascus in 1994.


Prof. Hisham is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (MRCOG), United Kingdom, since 1995 and is certified by the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists / Royal College of Radiologists (RCOG/RCR) for advanced Obstetrical Ultrasound. His extensive expertise makes him a sought-after specialist in prenatal care Abu Dhabi.


Prof. Hisham has a Fellowship in Foetal Maternal Medicine from the University of Toronto, Canada, since 1999, and he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (FRCOG), United Kingdom, in 2007.
He also obtained his Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) from Maastricht, The Netherlands, in 2012.


Prof. Hisham has numerous achievements to his credit:
Led the establishment of the first Foetal Medicine Unit in UAE at Tawam Hospital, reinforcing his position as a foetal medicine expert Abu Dhabi.

  • Established the first Foetal Unit in Sudan.
  • Developed the Diploma in Advanced Diagnostic Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the United Arab Emirates University.
  • Led the first intrauterine Foetal blood transfusion group in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Established the first Ex-Vivo Human Placenta Perfusion Laboratory at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, College of Medicine & Health Sciences, UAE University.
  • Awarded a research grant from the UAE University of AED 226,000 ($62,000.00) to compare the transport of sotalol and flecainide (antiarrhythmic drugs) across the placenta using the ex-vivo human placenta perfusion model.
  • Recognized as the best teacher for the Clinical Science Course for 2003/2004 by the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University.
  • Received the “Distinguished Service Award 2008-2009” from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University.
  • Under his leadership as Chair, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology was awarded the ‘Excellence in Teaching Award 2007” by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAE University.
  • Given special recognition for outstanding presentation at the 3rd Annual Research Conference of the UAE University, May 2002, for his oral presentation on “The Effect of Maternal Fasting during Ramadan on Human Foetal Activity.”
