Dr. Solomon K. P. John is a highly accomplished Consultant Surgeon specializing in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB), Gastrointestinal, Transplant and Trauma Surgery. With more than two decades of clinical, academic and research experience across the United Kingdom, South Korea, the Middle East and India, he brings world-class expertise in complex hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal surgery. Throughout his career, Dr. John has held senior consultant positions at high-volume HPB and transplant centres, including the Freeman Hospital in the UK, Lakeshore Hospital and PVS Hospital in India, as well as major surgical units at Apollo and Welcare Hospitals. His NHS experience spans specialist registrar training across HPB, oesophago-gastric, colorectal, breast, vascular and general surgery. Dr. John’s surgical philosophy focuses on precision, evidence-based practice, multidisciplinary collaboration and minimally invasive approaches to optimise patient outcomes. His commitment to high-quality patient-centred care has earned him strong trust and recognition across the institutions he has served.

Dr. John completed his UK Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in HPB and Transplant Surgery, followed by a prestigious Post-CCT Senior Fellowship in Liver Transplantation and HPB Surgery at the internationally renowned Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. He further pursued a Medical Scientist Fellowship in laparoscopic and transplant liver surgery at Samsung Medical Centre in Seoul, where he received advanced training in minimally invasive liver surgery. He holds the FEBS (HPB) qualification from UEMS, the FRCS (UK), a Doctor of Medicine (DM) from the University of Southampton and dual MRCS certifications from England and Edinburgh.

Dr. John’s clinical expertise covers the full spectrum of open and advanced laparoscopic HPB and gastrointestinal surgery, including major liver resections, pancreatic surgery such as the Whipple procedure, complex biliary surgery, choledochal cyst excision, biliary reconstruction, and laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy. His skills extend to minimally invasive esophago-gastric surgery, cytoreductive procedures, multivisceral resections, portal hypertension surgery and comprehensive emergency GI and trauma surgery. His transplant expertise includes cadaveric and living donor liver transplantation, multi-organ retrievals and transplant-associated vascular reconstructions. Dr. John’s practice encompasses the entire breadth of open and advanced laparoscopic HPB and GI surgery, including:

An active academic surgeon, Dr. John has authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications, numerous book chapters and invited reviews, along with more than 80 national and international conference abstracts. His research contributions address colorectal liver metastasis outcomes, advanced pancreatic surgery, growth factor therapy in decompensated cirrhosis, the gut microbiome in alcoholic liver disease, surgical oncology outcomes and enhanced recovery programmes. He also serves as a reviewer for HPB Surgery and maintains continuous engagement in research and surgical innovation. Dr. John is a dedicated surgical educator and has served as faculty for multiple international and national teaching programmes, including the Royal College of Surgeons (England) CCRISP course. He has been involved extensively in postgraduate and undergraduate teaching in the UK and India, and was awarded the Best Teacher Award early in his academic tenure.
