Dr. Mondy Hammad is a highly experienced ENT Consultant in Abu Dhabi, recognized both nationally and internationally for his expertise as an Ear, Nose, and Throat Consultant in Abu Dhabi. He is regarded as the Best ENT Doctor in Abu Dhabi, particularly for his extensive experience in cochlear implant surgery. As a Head and Neck Surgeon in Abu Dhabi, Dr. Mondy has been at the forefront of pioneering procedures in his field.
He started his training in the cochlear implant field back in 1995 in the ENT department at the University of Wuerzburg, Germany. He then completed his cochlear implant training at the University of Freiburg, Germany, in 2001, where he also obtained the German Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He is a Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Cairo University, Egypt. Dr. Mondy played a key role in founding the cochlear implant program at Cairo University in 1998, later establishing the first governmental cochlear implant program in the UAE at Mafraq Hospital in 2008. Throughout his career, he has been involved in nearly 1,000 cochlear implants across Germany, Egypt, and the UAE. He has also contributed to the development of cochlear implant programs in other countries, such as Sudan.
Dr. Mondy has performed the highest number of cochlear implant surgeries by a single surgeon in the UAE, as well as the highest number of surgeries completed in a single center. From January 2021 to June 2023, he performed 126 cochlear implant surgeries (104 patients, including 22 bilateral surgeries), making it the largest number of such surgeries performed in one center by a single surgeon in the UAE during this period.
As a leading Hearing and Balance Specialist in Abu Dhabi, Dr. Mondy has successfully handled difficult revision cases and cases involving complex cochlear malformations. He is experienced in hearing and structure-preserving surgeries that have proven to yield better hearing outcomes. In 2010, he performed the first bilateral cochlear implant surgery on a child younger than 12 months old in the UAE and operated on the youngest child in the country. He also introduced a novel technique to treat implant site infections without requiring implant removal.
Dr. Mondy has actively participated in national and international medical conferences, delivering lectures and engaging in panel discussions on cochlear implants. His expertise was recognized in 2010 when his cochlear implant program won the Arab Health Award for Excellence in Surgery. He is also a member of the American Cochlear Implant Alliance.
In addition to cochlear implants, Dr. Mondy is a pioneer in bone-anchored and middle ear implants. He performed the second transcutaneous bone-anchored implant in the Middle East and the first fully implantable middle ear implant in the region in 2012. To date, he has completed the highest number of active bone implant (Osia) surgeries in the UAE.
Beyond implant surgeries, Dr. Mondy is a leading Sinus and Allergy Specialist in Abu Dhabi, offering advanced treatments for sinus disorders and allergies. He is also an expert in middle ear surgery, having performed thousands of cholesteatoma procedures and other middle ear surgeries such as tympanoplasties, ossiculoplasties, and stapedectomies. He is frequently referred to by other doctors in the UAE for complex ear surgeries, including multiple revisions and cases where the disease extends to the skull base.
His most recent work includes commissioning the Tarabichi-Mondy Cochlear Implant Center (TMCIC) in collaboration with Tarabichi Healthcare, led by Dr. Muaaz Tarabichi, and NMC Healthcare. This state-of-the-art center is located at NMC Royal Hospital Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi, providing specialized services in otolaryngology and cochlear implants.
