
Dr Ghassan obtained his MBBS from the First Medical Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he subsequently pursued specialized training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He further completed his PhD in Gynaecological Oncology at the Institute of Oncology in St. Petersburg, Russia, with his thesis on hormonal receptors in endometrial cancer.
Dr. Lotfi moved to Finland in 1990 where he worked as a specialist in OBGYN, then head of department in Jakobsatd regional hospital until 2002.
In 1998, Dr. Lotfi was awarded the Swedish board as an accredited specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, followed in the same year with the accreditation of the Finnish board in the same specialty. In 2000, he acquired the Norwegian board while working in Ulleval university hospital-Oslo as a consultant in Gyn oncology.
Dr. Lotfi underwent extensive training and fellowships in minimally invasive Gynecological surgical approach starting in Finland-HYKS in 1995, IRCAD/EITS- Strasbourg/France, Leuven/Belgium and M.D. Anderson/Houston-USA.
Dr Ghassan has held esteemed positions in leading university hospitals across Finland, Sweden, and Norway as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology until 2010. Prior to his tenure at NMC Specialty Hospital in Al Ain, he served as the Head of the Women’s Health Department at several private hospitals in Dubai, including Al Zahraa, Fakeeh university, Saudi German and IMH hospitals.
Notably, Dr Ghassan founded and presided over the Emirates Endometriosis League- EMEL in 2014, spreading awareness on endometriosis among patients as well medical practitioners, and organizing yearly international conferences under the EMEL.
Dr. Ghassan pioneered the establishment of Centre of Care for Endometriosis, as well as multidisciplinary team approach for the management of complex cases of Deep Endometriosis in Dubai-based private as well DHA institutions.
Additionally, he facilitated the accreditation of the same hospitals by the SRC AAGL, recognizing these hospitals as Centre of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgery (COEMIG).
Dr. Lotfi helped establish and was part of the multi-disciplinary “Placenta pathology team” during his service at Latifa hospital/DHA in 2016.
Dr. Lotfi is an active member of the FSSOG (Fellow of the Swedish Society of Obs and Gynae), FNSGO (Fellow of the Norwegian Society of Obs and Gynae), FFGA (Fellow of the Finnish Gynae Association).
Dr Ghassan has published several research studies, first of which was in 1989 on hormonal receptors in endometrial cancer, as well several studies on endometriosis in the UAE, of which the "CA-125: A Sensitive Marker for Advanced Stages of Endometriosis – A Retrospective Study of Endometriosis Patients Database," published in the Chronicle Journal of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in 2018 as well an epidemiological study on Endometriosis Profile Among Dubai Women Cohort Records Review, Dubai which was published in 2017.
Dr Ghassan is distinguished as a Master Surgeon in MIGS and is AAGL-SRC accredited..
