Dr Babitha Mekkayil is a highly esteemed Consultant Rheumatologist with extensive experience in the UK and India. She specializes in a wide range of rheumatological conditions, including inflammatory and non-inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue diseases, osteoporosis, and vasculitis. After completing her medical degree at Calicut Medical College, India, in 2006, Dr Mekkayil pursued comprehensive postgraduate training in the UK. She obtained MRCP (UK) Rheumatology, CCT Rheumatology, and FRCP (Edin).
Following her CCT in Rheumatology in 2020, she served as a Consultant Rheumatologist for two years at Darlington Memorial Hospital, UK, and subsequently at Baby Memorial Hospital, Calicut, India, from September 2022 to June 2024.
Dr Mekkayil is not only a skilled clinician but also a prolific author and presenter, with numerous publications and presentations at prestigious venues, including BSR conferences in the UK. Her commitment to advancing clinical practice and medical education is evident through her active involvement in teaching MRCP PACES at James Cook University Hospital.
She is fluent in English and Malayalam, conversant in Hindi.
