
Dr. Wael’s experience spans 19 years. He worked for 2 years as a Senior Registrar in General Internal Medicine and 4 years as a Specialist Physician at Al Kadhemya University Hospital, Baghdad, Iraq. He worked for 3 years as Head of the Department of Nephrology and Dialysis Unit in Al Karamah Teaching Hospital, Baghdad, Iraq, which is one of the major tertiary hospitals in Iraq and renowned for its Kidney transplantation program. This experience has made him one of the best nephrologists in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Wael completed his M.B.Ch.B at Al Mustansiriya Medical College in Iraq followed by a Fellowship of the Iraqi Board of Medical Specialisation in Internal Medicine. He received a C.A.B.M in Internal Medicine and F.I.C.M.S in Nephrology. Dr. Wael was honoured with a Fellowship from the American College of Physicians in 2012 and also a Fellowship from the American Society of Nephrology in 2014. He has been the Head of the Department of Nephrology and Dialysis department in NMC Specialty Hospital since 2006, where he is regarded as one of the most trusted kidney specialists in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Wael has teaching and training experience of the Iraqi nephrology board candidates, in General Nephrology and kidney transplantation at Al Karamah Teaching Hospital and also medical college students in internal medicine at Al-Mustanseriya Medical College. He was chosen as the prestigious Editor and Author of the Journal of Transplantation Technologies and Researches (JTTR) for the year 2011, and two of his papers have been chosen by the biomedical library (BioMedLib). As a highly skilled nephrology consultant, he is known for his expertise in kidney care.
Dr. Wael is a Member of the Acute Kidney Injury Network (AKIN), Member of Emirate Medical Association in Nephrology (EMAN), Member of the American Society of Transplantation (AST), Member of the European Dialysis and Transplantation Association (ERA-EDTA), Member of Arab Society of Nephrology and Renal Transplantation (ASNRT), Member of the International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD), Member of the Iraqi Association of Nephrology and Transplantation, and Member of the American Society of Nephrology. As a renal specialist doctor, he is widely recognized in international circles.
He has presented at two conferences at the 6th International Congress of Nephrology in the Internet, held in November 2011, titled "Characteristics of Atheromatous Renovascular Disease in Dubai." He also presented one paper at the 5th Iraqi Society of Nephrology workshop held in Erbil-Iraq in September 2011, titled "Nephrotic syndrome: Minimal Change Disease vs. IgA Nephropathy." He has over 14 publications to his credit and is often regarded as an expert nephrologist in Abu Dhabi with a strong academic presence.
Dr. Wael is a reviewer for the Saudi Journal of Kidney Disease and Transplantation since 2009 and has been a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Nephropathology since 2011. He is also the Reviewer of the Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Reviewer of the Kidney Failure Journal. His commitment to the field further reinforces his reputation as a kidney care specialist in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Wael likes to keep himself abreast with the latest developments in the field of Nephrology, Transplants, and Hemodialysis. He attends congresses and courses internationally, including the 5th ISN Nephrology, ERA-EDTA Congress, and MESOT Congress.
Dr. Wael speaks in both Arabic and English and continues to serve as a trusted nephrologist in Abu Dhabi at NMC.
