Dr. Varma completed his MBBS from Government Medical College Thrissur, under the University of Calicut. He went on to do his MD in General Medicine from the prestigious Central Government Institute, JIPMER in Pondicherry. He did his DM in Gastroenterology from Medical College, Trivandrum under Kerala University. Post DM he worked as a registrar in the renowned Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) Lucknow for a while before joining the post of Associate Professor in Medical College Alleppey, Kerala and later as the Associate professor in The Institute of GI and Liver Sciences in Pariyaram Medical College in Kerala.

- Diagnostic Endoscopic Ultrasound

- Esophageal Manometry and pH metry
Dr. Varma has several international publications, articles and scientific presentations to his credit. He is a Life Member of Indian Society of Gastroenterology.
He is fluent in English, Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam.
