
Dr Oliver Yiu Hon Wah is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with over 25 years of experience. A graduate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, his esteemed career ismarked by significant contributions to the field of orthopaedics through his clinical practice, teaching roles, leadership positions, and humanitarian experiences.
A pioneer in the development of minimally invasive trauma surgery (percutaneous plate reduction techniques) in Hong Kong, The implementation of such techniques have significantly reduced the wound complication rate of lower limb fractures from 3-5% to 0% in the single-centre case series. It has also significantly reduced the hospital stay to allow many fractures to be managed as Day Surgery that otherwise was regarded as impossible. Dr. Oliver operated as the only microvascular surgeon working across different specialties including Orthopaedic, Maxillofacial and Head & Neck Surgeries to cover all the free flap surgeries in the North District Hospital during the period of 2010-2020. His contribution of microvascular reconstruction surgeries has He has held significant positions within the healthcare system, serving as the Training Director of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in the North District Hospital in Hong Kong from 2010 to 2020, where he played a crucial role in shaping the careers of future orthopaedic surgeons. His commitment to successfully executing complicated surgeries has led him being highly regarded in the field of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. Driven by his commitment to holistic patient care, he obtained a Diploma in Acupuncture from the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education in 2003.
Prior to starting his private practice in Dubai Healthcare City, Dr Oliver served as an associate consultant in Hong Kong public hospital and consultant private practice. His dedication to providing high-quality care led him to volunteer for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) as an expatriate orthopaedic surgeon in Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan. His selfless contributions during these missions have brought vital medical care to underserved communities, showcasing his compassion to making a positive impact beyond the confines of his regular practice.
