Mama care - Pregnancy and Child Birth Preparatory Classes

Mama care - Pregnancy and Child Birth Preparatory Classes

Pregnancy and childbirth though happy events instill tremendous fear and insecurity in a woman's mind. Most maternal anxiety comes from lack of knowledge about pregnancy and childbirth, the changes in their bodies, process of birth, and severity of pain during delivery.

Research has proven that levels of anxiety have been shown to predict complications in both mother and child. At NMC hospital, Al Ain, Mama Care classes are conducted for pregnant couples every week. In these classes our staff meet couple informally and take them through the changes in pregnancy, what are the do's and don'ts, right eating habits, exercise and fitness. These classes empower pregnant women, make them fearless and more confident. They cope with pregnancy and labor pains very well and have increased rates of vaginal births.

Most pregnancies are fortunately uncomplicated and are termed as low risk.

The term “high-risk” is used to describe a pregnancy where the woman has a pre- existing condition or has experienced complications during pregnancy or birth. This risk involves either baby or mother or both.

Your pregnancy may be high risk if,

  • You have a history of gynaecological problems such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), endometriosis, or large symptomatic fibroids.

  • You have a history of pregnancy loss (miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or stillbirth) or premature birth.

  • You are pregnant as a result of assisted reproductive technologies (which may put you at increased risk of having a multiple pregnancy).

  • Use of You have had two or more second-trimester pregnancy losses.

  • Use of You have conceived while using an IUD.

  • Use of You have a child with a genetic disorder or are a carrier for a genetic disorder..

  • Use of You have a pre-existing medical condition [ex: diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease, SLE etc.]

Some of these complications can be minor and treatable, and others are more complicated. We understand the concern that exists for families faced with a high-risk pregnancy.
