Dr. Athira Aswin is a specialist pulmonologist with over 8 years of clinical experience.
She completed her undergraduate training (MBBS) from Jubilee Mission Medical College, Thrissur, Kerala, India in 2004 and was a gold medal recipient in various clinical subjects. She did her post graduate training (MD) in Pulmonary Medicine in 2011 at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, Kerala, India which is one of the premier hospitals in South Asia. She was trained under some of the well-known Professors in the field of Pulmonary Medicine.
She has gained extensive experience in the management of routine and complex pulmonary disorders such as asthma, COPD, Tuberculosis, ILD, lung infections, sleep disordered breathing. She was also involved in ICU management including mechanical ventilation. She has also been trained in interventional procedures including flexible bronchoscopy, thoracoscopy, central line insertions, intercostal tube drainage and pigtail insertions.
Before moving to the UAE, Dr. Athira was working for 3 years as a Consultant Pulmonologist at MaCare Specialty Diagnostic Centre, Thrissur, Kerala, India where she was dealing with the common respiratory diseases.
She has published articles and case reports in some of the national journals and has presented cases at state and national level conferences. She is also an active member of several organisations such as CHEST, American Thoracic Society (ATS), European Respiratory Society (ERS), Academy of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (APCCM), Amrita Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (ABIP).
