Dr. Merezban Katrak completed his M.B.B.S from Mumbai and obtained his DNB in Surgery from National Board of Examination, New Delhi. He attained his M.R.C.S (General Surgery) from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK in 2001. He has cleared his Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery - Bariatrics and Metabolic Surgery from Indian Association of Gastro-Intestinal Endo Surgeons (I.A.G.E.S), New Delhi, India.

He has had a brilliant post-graduation career and did his Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, India under Padmashree Dr. Pradeep Chowbey. He also underwent training in Haemorrhoidal THD procedures at Policlinico Gemelli Hospital, Italy.

Dr. Katrak is a member of the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCS), UK; Indian Association of Gastro Intestinal Endo Surgeons (I.A.G.E.S); National Academy of Medical Sciences (MNAMS), New Delhi; the Indian Society of Gastroenterologist  – Middle East (ISG - ME) and Asia Pacific Hernia Society (APHS).

Prior to joining NMC Specialty Hospital – Abu Dhabi, Dr. Katrak was working in the reputed BLY Nair Hospital, Mumbai, India where he worked in the GESS (Gastroenterological Surgical Services) Department dealing with a vast range of Hepatobiliary and Colorectal Surgeries. He has held the post of Casualty Medical Officer where he handled a large number of Trauma Cases.

In NMC since the last 15 years Dr. Katrak is working as a Consultant Surgeon and has rich experience in major Abdominal Surgeries, Minor Daycare Surgeries along with Laparoscopic Hernia, Gall Bladder, Anorectal, Pilonidal, Varicose Veins and Breast Surgeries.

Dr. Katrak’s keen interest in Hernia Hurgery led him to attend workshops in Advanced Laparoscopic and Open Hernia Surgery at Imelda Hospital in Belgium under Dr. Tim Tollens in 2012 and 2017. He also attended Abdominal Wall Repair (AWR) hands on training in Mumbai, India in 2017. He has also conducted a workshop in Laparoscopic Ventral Hernia Repair, at Sharjah Surgical Institute, University of Sharjah. He was one of the main organisers in the International Hernia Conference held by NMC in Abu Dhabi, UAE in 2017. He specialises in Laparoscopic Hernia TEP Repair, Laparoscopic Ventral Hernia Repair and Component Separation procedures for Complex Hernias.

Dr. Katrak has been associated with Bariatric Surgery since 2015. He has attended Advanced Bariatric Surgery workshops with hands on training at University of Sharjah and Istanbul, Turkey. To further enhance his skills in Bariatric Surgery, he attended a 20 days observers post  under the esteemed Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala, at CODS Centre, Saifee Hospital, Mumbai, India in February, 2016 where he assisted and operated under supervision. At present he specialises in Gastric Sleeve, Mini Mastric Bypass and Roux en Y Gastric Bypass Surgery for Bariatric patients. Dr. Katrak has been invited by the Dubai Health Authorities for investigating Medico-legal cases in Bariatric Surgery.

His special area of Interest is in Laparoscopic Surgeries especially Hernia Surgery, Bariatric  Surgery, Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Minimally Invasive Varicose Veins Surgery, Haemorrhoidal THD procedure, Pilonidal Sinus Surgery and Video Assisted Anal Fistula Treatment (VAAFT) for Complex Anal Fistulas.

He has a number of international publications, articles and scientific presentations to his credit. He has been involved in organising several conferences.

Dr. Katrak is fluent in English, Hindi, Urdu and Gujarati.
