
Dr. Risana Basheer completed her MBBS in 1996 from University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
She is a General Practitioner with a total clinical experience of more than 17 years comprising of close to 10 years’ experience in managing OPD and emergency cases in NMC Hospital.
Dr. Risana during her career has worked as a Senior House Officer in many government hospitals in Sri Lanka. She also holds the ‘Professional membership of Sri Lanka Medical Council’.
She has undergone many professional courses such as Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support courses.
Dr. Risana’s keen interest in the area of research and academic services led to her participation in numerous academic projects and sessions, including:
- “Prevalence of Diseases (Diabetic Mellitus and Hypertension) and Associated Factors (Age, Smoking, and Family Status etc)”, in a North Colombo village, Sri Lanka.
- Assisted in “Mebendazole Therapy in Pregnancy” research
- “The Effect of Paternal Smoking on Birth Anomalies”, at 30th Annual Session of Ceylon College of Physicians in September 1997.
- “Congenital Central Nervous System Defects and the Potential for their Reduction”, at the International Congress of the Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in September 1997.
Dr. Risana Basheer can speak in English, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Sinhala, Malayalam and Tamil.
