Dr. Rafique Memon obtained his MBBS degree from prestigious Government Medical College, Surat, India in the year 2006 with excellent grade. He later obtained his MD (Paediatrics) from the SMIMER (Surat Municipal Institute of Medical College And Research), Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, India in 2011. He then went on to complete his Indian Academy of Paediatric Fellowship in Neonatology – a 2 year course from prestigious Rainbow Children Hospital, Hyderabad (over 200 NICU beds) – one of the largest neonatal intensive care units in India. He was trained under renowned neonatologist and Paediatric intensivists at various departments. He passed fellowship exit exam with excellent grade in year 2011.
Dr. Rafique's work experience includes as Senior Resident in Paediatrics at SMIMER Surat, India after completion of his MD. He later worked with at 4 different tertiary care NICU’s and PICU’s of Rainbow hospital across Andhra Pradesh where he gained extensive experience in neonatal and paediatric intensive care. During his fellowship training he obtained vast experience in transporting critical newborn from various hospitals from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharastra to name a few. During his fellowship training the hospital has record of saving 24 weeks gestation baby weighing 449 grams - the lowest newborn survived in India.
He worked as senior resident at prestigious STAR hospital’s Paediatric Cardiac Critical Care ICU as part of fellowship training and gained vast experience in cardiac critical care emergency and central line insertion. After fellowship training he worked as HOD of NICU and PICU of one of the regional branch of NIRMAL children hospital for 1 year. During this time he also worked as academic teacher for fellowship student of NICU at Nirmal Hospital, Surat. He worked as assistant to one of the well-known neonatal cardiologist at Nirmal hospital and gained experience in neonatal ECHO and Neonatal HUS and bedside USG.
Dr. Rafique’s special interest includes resuscitation and management of Extreme Low Gestational Age Newborns and their neurodevelopmental follow up, neonatal ventilation- gentle ventilation/ lung protective strategies, optimal nutrition of preterm infants, family centered NICU care. He possesses exceptional clinical skills and can perform invasive/noninvasive ventilation of newborn babies, parenteral nutrition long lines, echocardiogram and cranial ultrasound in critically ill babies.
