Dr. Byron Nikolaos Kalliatakis obtained his MB BCh (WITS) from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. After his MB BCh, Dr. Byron got his FCP (SA) from the College of Medicine, South Africa. Dr. Byron also obtained his MRCP (UK) from the Royal College of Physicians, London, United Kingdom.

Dr. Byron has a vast experience in the field of Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiology. He completed his specialist training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at Baragwanath Hospital, Johannesburg, South Africa from 1989 to 1995. He completed the initial course and qualified as a Specialist Physician in 1993. This was followed by a 2 year fellowship program, and he qualified as a Cardiologist in 1995.

He continued to work as a Senior Consultant in Medicine and Cardiology at Baragwanath Hospital till 1999, before venturing into private practice.

He has worked as a Consultant in Cardiology at various reputable private hospitals in South Africa (Flora Clinic and Milpark Hospital) and UAE (Mediclinic City Hospital). He has thus far performed Coronary Interventions (Angioplasty/Stent procedures) on over 6000 patients.

Dr. Byron’s special area of expertise are Echodcardiography/TEE, Cardiac Catheterisation and Interventional Cardiology.

He has also participated in several multi-centre research studies and registries, as well as Basic Science Stem Cell Research. He still maintains a keen interest in Stem Cell Research.

He was also one of the initial participants of the pioneering ‘multi-vessel stenting trials’ which started in the late 90’s, and continued with the ‘DES’ trials thereafter.
